At Kyoto Designs, we have been specialising in the production of Contemporary and Oriental floral designs for rent or retail within the UK since 1993. We have a wealth of knowledge on Japan and Korea, both North and South, their culture and lifestyle; so if we can help, we will.

Practised in Japan for hundreds of years and at one time a relaxing pastime for Samurai Warriors as a respite from their other less gentle pursuits. Ikebana is seen as a peaceful and leisurely pursuit, but for those without the time, we supply ever lasting Ikebana, to be enjoyed without the effort.

All our floral designs use the authentic principles of Ikebana, the Japanese style of flower arranging.
We produce, in Dorset in England, a complete range of unique handmade designs using a wide variety of flowers and colours.

Our Beginnings
The idea of starting a business from Ikebana came after several earlier trips to Japan. After much effort in turning a Japanese art into something that could be reproduced and shared with a greater audience, the company was formed by Mary Symons and Steven Walker in 1993. It is currently servicing an area covering London and the South of England with a new selected range of designs available from 2007 by secure online mail order.

Key Personnel
Mary Symons has travelled extensively throughout Japan having spent several years training in Ikebana and other aspects of Japanese culture and lifestyle. Through this and her teaching qualifications with the Ohara School of Ikebana, she is in demand as a regular after-dinner speaker on both the serious and light hearted sides of life in Japan.
Mary has spoken on the radio and television on a number of occasions and also runs courses and workshops on Ikebana and Japanese lifestyle. In addition to after-dinner speaking she lectures for various Cruise lines, mostly those on world cruises. She holds a range of Japanese Culture and ikebana themed workshops across the UK although specific requests can be fulfilled for groups across Europe and the Middle East.

Community Support
As a business operating on the south coast of England we are keen to support local charitable initiatves. These include currently the Tenovus and BBC Daisy Appeal campaigns.
